Individual Psychotherapy
I believe that we all have a wise part of ourselves (our true core self) inside us that knows what is best for us and how to create a better life for ourselves, but due to past wounds, trauma, a difficult childhood, dysfunctional relationships, unhealthy work or school environments, anxiety, depression, loss, and many other reasons, we lose touch with our true self or never even knew that part existed. Therefore, as a therapist providing individual therapy, I see my job as one where I am here to create a safe space for you to get in touch with your true self so you can create the life you truly want to live. I do this by having a non-judgemental and heart-centered approach, validating your experience and helping you to vent and release stress in your current life or from the past so that you can become more aware of your true, wise self and allow that part of you to guide you in making decisions and taking actions to improve your life situation. I also support you from a holistic point of view to identify unhealthy patterns, learn and practice various cognitive and behavioral strategies to create new healthier patterns. Sometimes traditional talk therapy is enough to make the changes you want and sometimes it helps to do deeper work which I can also support you in doing through hypnotherapy and EMDR.
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and difficulty adjusting to significant changes in life.
Couples Counseling
Over the past 30 years of counseling couples I have seen four main challenges to having healthy and enjoyable relationships: difficulty communicating effectively, difficulty regulating emotions effectively which makes it hard to communicate or problem solve effectively, letting our past experiences impact how we see and interact with each other, and difficulty taking responsibility for our part in the challenges in our relationships. Thus, I strive to support couples in learning and practicing effective communication skills and emotional regulation skills. I also support my clients in identifying and taking responsibility for their part in dysfunctional relationship patterns and then learning and practicing new healthier ways of seeing things and behaviors to create healthier patterns in their relationship. I do all this from a heart-centered and non-judgemental approach without taking sides, validating both people so they feel heard, understood and safe to participate in the couple's work.
I have experience and work with a variety of issues that many couples face. For instance: couples deciding whether or not to continue in the relationship, communication problems, money issues, emotional and sexual intimacy issues, boundary issues, parenting issues, one or both partners experiencing mood issues, infidelity, problems with one or both partner’s family of origin impacting the relationship, and having a difficult time adjusting to significant changes impacting the relationship (i.e. moving in together, having a child, job changes, moving, divorce, empty nest, aging, and health problems).

Family Therapy
I work with all different combinations of family structures. For instance, I’ve seen parents with their children, blended families, adult couples with in-laws, siblings as children or adults, grandparents with grandchildren, aunts or uncles with nieces and nephews, cousins, family friends that are more like family than blood related relatives, and a number or other combinations. In each different family combination, I work to identify what the issues are between my clients and what their goals for family therapy are. Then I support them in understanding each other and problem solving to reach their goals. Often, this involves learning and practicing more effective communication skills, identifying what each person’s role is in creating a dysfunctional dynamic and how to take responsibility for their part so they can learn and practice new ways of seeing things and behaviors to create healthier patterns to reach their goals as a family.
I’ve supported clients and their families with a variety of issues and feel comfortable working with a wide range of issues including parenting issues, blended family issues, divorce, communication difficulties, problems at school or work, trauma, boundary issues, and challenges from significant changes in the family.
